abstract = {Jenő Egerváry was an outstanding Hungarian mathematician. He was born
in Debrecen (Hungary), and he went to school at the famous Fazekas secondary school
of the town. He took care of talented students, he developed their mathematical thinking. His most important mathematical results belong to Matrix Theory. He proved a
theorem of D. Kőnig in Graph Theory. In 1955W. Kuhn (U.S.A.) recognized a possible
application of Egervárýs theorems for assignment problems. The assignment algorithm
was solved by Kuhn and this method was named by him Hungarian method for the
assignment problem in honour of the two Hungarian mathematicians, D. Kőnig and
J. Egerváry, who contributed to the birth of a new topic of mathematics, to the birth of
linear programming and combinatorial optimization.},
