The history of the foundation of Institute of Technical Physics, the first physical institute at the universities in Slovakia, is described. The personal and material development of the Institute is presented on the background of four relocations. The persons acting at the beginning of this Institute are mentioned. The influence of the Institute on the contemporary staff at the universities and academic institutes is underlined.
