Referring to author`s student memories, some remarks on mathematics study at the Comenius University in Bratislava from 1953 until 1958 are presented. It is described how important role the period played for Slovak mathematics development. Patient and kindness are highlighted as integral part of mathematician preparation and mathematics education.
